How long it takes

GA DPH: "Processing times are 8 to 10 weeks on all mail-in requests. (State Office only)"; online orders: "standard processing time … is up to 10 weeks.".

The funeral home’s role

The office’s pages do not describe the funeral home’s role. Many families ask the funeral director to order the first copies when arrangements are made.

State office has death records from January 1919. The state's own online portal is ROVER (Georgia Technology Authority); DPH also links a third-party vendor, Go-Cert.

How many copies to order

Most banks, insurers, pension plans and government agencies each want their own certified copy. Count the accounts and policies before you order, because ordering more later means another application and fee. How many death certificates you need has a worksheet.
